First To Go Internship 2024-2025

Who are the First To Go Interns?

First To Go Interns are a group of paid undergraduate/graduate student interns who serve as ambassadors on behalf of First To Go (F2G). Interns engage with first-gen students by executing and participating in campus events, advocating in the interest of first-gen students, and collaborating with campus partners to enhance the overall experience of all first-gen students. In doing so, the F2G Interns aim to build community and connect first-gen students to UCLA resources.

What positions are available for the First To Go Internship?

During the academic year we have the following positions:

  • 1 Social Media/Design Intern (*must submit sample/portfolio of previous graphic design work)
  • 1 Student Success Intern
  • 1 Student Resource Intern (will work closely with Graduate intern)
  • 1 Mentorship Intern
  • 1 Graduate MSA Intern

    What are the responsibilities of each intern?

    Under the supervision of First To Go professional staff, our team of interns are expected to do the following:

    Social Media/Design Intern

    • Design flyers, social media content, and website graphics for the First To Go office
    • Manage and post on the First To Go social media pages and newsletter weekly
    • Create digital resources (student handbooks, resources, guides, etc.) as needed by the entire First To Go Team
    • Elevate the First To Go brand by creating fresh graphics for signature events/programs
    • Represent First To Go at student events across campus
    • *Must submit sample of past design/graphic design work
    • Expected to support other FTG initiatives, events, and interns through collaboration, outreach, event planning, etc.

    Mentorship Intern

    • Oversee all functions and activities of the mentorship program and manage its expansion as needed
    • Be the point of contact for all mentors/mentee by answering inquiries and troubleshooting
    • Support the Graduate Intern to create exclusive events/excursions for the program
    • Create digital resources for mentors/mentees
    • Partner with campus stakeholders to set up professional development opportunities for mentors/mentees
    • Expected to support other FTG initiatives, events, and interns through collaboration, outreach, event planning, etc.
    • Represent First To Go at student events across campus

    Student Success Intern

    • Develop programming and coordinate events around career exploration and readiness
    • Serve as liaison between F2G and the Career Center to streamline resources/communication
    • Coordinate events and resources for students to prepare for graduation
    • Work with the Student Resource Intern to collaborate with campus partners such as the Transfer Student Center, The Career Center, Graduate Career Services, Graduate Student Resource Center, and other organizations/departments to build the first-gen community through large and small scale events
    • Represent First To Go at student events across campus
    • Expected to support other FTG initiatives, events, and interns through collaboration, outreach, event planning, etc.

    Student Resource Intern

    • Work with the Student Success Intern to collaborate with campus partners
    • Host office hours for students and refer them to appropriate offices/resources as needed
    • Collaborate with the Academic Advising Program (AAP) to put on events and workshops related to academic success
    • Develop the Academic Series in collaboration with multiple schools at UCLA to highlight the first-generation identities (David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA School of Law, etc.)
    • Manage all communication and events related to studying abroad
    • Renovate the website by including relevant academic resources
    • Collaborate with the Mentorship Intern by sharing resources for the mentorship program, co-planning events for the mentorship program, etc.
    • Coordinating events and resources for our faculty-related initiatives
    • Represent First To Go at student events across campus
    • Expected to support other FTG initiatives, events, and interns through collaboration, outreach, event planning, etc.

    MSA Intern

    • Develop and coordinate events, resources, and Faculty initiatives to support first-gen students
    • Work with First to Go Staff and interns to perform data collection, transcription, coding, analyses, and prepare reports
    • Create and update resources (handbooks, guides, etc.) for graduate students
    • Mentor and guide mentorship interns on mentorship program logistics and program planning
    • Represent First To Go at student events across campus
    • Expected to support other FTG initiatives, events, and interns through collaboration, outreach, event planning, etc.
